As we progressed with the planning for the new data room expansion, we also looked at changing the traffic patterns in the building. One of the first items on hand was to improve our technicians’ access to the Generator Yard. Previously, we would have to leave the electrical room, walk out into the hallway and then exit into the generator yard through a keyed door to get to the generator yard. The new plan allows us to go directly out to where the generators are from the data room.
When we reclaimed hallway space we had to install a new emergency exit door in the center of the building across from the entrance to the data rooms. Of course, cutting these new doors into the masonry exterior walls, we were quite concerned about protecting the interior environment. Our construction crew took exceptional care to seal off the door openings so that all of the debris was kept outside of the building.
We also changed the use of our west building access door. This door used to lead into a larger loading dock. With the reduction in size of the loading dock now this door will be used as an emergency exit out of the data room.
One feature of our building control systems is that we were able to easily change the access controls on each of these doors with our Keyscan system. We were able to change and modify access privileges to these doors as they were being installed without delay, keeping the building safe and secure throughout construction.Follow Liberty Center One:
